445300-1 SR 44 Project Information Handout

S.R. 44 Resurfacing from N. Hill Avenue to the Eastbound I-4 On Ramp

Volusia County

Financial Project Identification (FPID) No: 445300-1

Dear Government Official:

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is designing improvements to increase safety and mobility along State Road (S.R.) 44 from N. Hill Avenue to the eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) on ramp.

This segment of S.R. 44 will be repaved to extend the life of the existing roadway. Safety modifications are planned to correct slopes within curves near Talmadge Gardens Road and Lake Winnemissett Drive.  The project also includes safety enhancements for pedestrians and bicyclists. For bicycle safety, the proposed design provides wider shoulders to accommodate bicycle lanes through the I-4 overpass. Safety will also be enhanced for all users by upgrading the guardrail at the I-4 overpass and improving intersection lighting. Additionally, the project will reconstruct sidewalk curb ramps and upgrade pedestrian signals to meet American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards for pedestrian safety.

The project excludes the project limits of a proposed roundabout at the intersection of S.R. 44 and Kepler Road, which is being designed under FPID number 431922-1 (www.cflroads.com/project/431922-1) and is not yet funded for construction.

The Department welcomes questions and comments from community about the project. Please see attached project information handout for more details. Project information is also available on the project website at www.cflroads.com/project/445300-1.
