2010 Transportation Disadvantaged Volunteer of the Year

In 1993, David Dixon lost his sight and drivers license. For two years, he was isolated and dependent upon church members to get to medical appointments and for groceries. In 1995, he learned about Votran’s door-to-door services through a church member and applied for it. After using the service, he was so impressed that he wanted to be a part of it and make sure other people like himself knew of it.

BPAC of the Year

The Volusia County Metropolitan Planning Organization (VCMPO) is proud to announce that the Florida Bicycle Association has named the VCMPO’s Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) as the BPAC of the year. The awards presentation will take place at the FBA Annual meeting to be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Lake County Bike Summit and Mount Dora Bicycle Festival in Mount Dora at 341 Alexander Street.

County Council to Back Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Campaign June 19

The Volusia County Council will show their commitment to bicycle and pedestrian safety on Volusia County’s roadways Thursday, June 19, during the County Council meeting lunch break. County Council members will announce the rollout of a new decal developed in part by the Volusia County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee that reminds riders and drivers of safe practices in sharing roadways. The decals will be placed on Votran buses and the county’s fleet of road vehicles.
