The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard (U.S. 92/State Road (S.R.) 600) and Lockhart Street in Daytona Beach.
The signal is now operating in flash mode and is expected to become fully operational in the coming weeks.
Drivers on International Speedway Boulevard will encounter a yellow flashing light, which helps motorists adjust to the new signal before it is fully activated with red, yellow, and green lights. While the signal is flashing yellow, drivers should remain alert and proceed with caution. Drivers should yield to pedestrians, bicyclists or vehicles already in the intersection and ensure it is clear before continuing.
Drivers on Lockhart Street will encounter a red flashing light requiring them to come to a complete stop before proceeding when it is safe to do so.
Once fully activated, the signal will provide a pedestrian crossing equipped with Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS), which use audible tones and verbal messages to let pedestrians who are visually impaired know when it is safe to cross. Pedestrian curb ramps are also being upgraded to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
This intersection improvement project is expected to be completed in summer 2026. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
FDOT advises motorists to reduce speed, follow posted signage, and exercise caution in the work zone.
