Volusia County’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Division will hold two public meetings to receive resident input on the county’s Trails Master Plan. The purpose of the plan is to continue to develop a world-class trail system to benefit ecotourism and quality of life within the community. The meetings will be held at these times and locations:
- 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach
- 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 27, at the Sanborn Center, 815 S. Alabama Ave., DeLand
The Volusia County Council approved the first trails plan back in 1999, and now the county is home to over 92 miles of paved trails. Currently, Volusia County trails are a part of the state’s Coast-to-Coast trail system, the East Central Florida Regional Rail Trail, as well as the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop.
The Trails Master Plan aims to summarize the current trail system and to specify goals for completing and maintaining trails in the future. The plan includes information on the economic and health benefits of a trail system, proposals for new projects, design and safety specifications, and partnerships.
In addition to public meetings, the county will have an online survey for the public to share comments.
For more information, visit volusia.org/trails or call Volusia County Parks, Recreation and Culture office at 386-736-5953.
Two or more members of the Volusia County Council may be in attendance. Their presence and participation may constitute a public meeting for purposes of Florida Statutes Section 286.011.
