Communities Celebrate Southern Expansion Opening

This advisory is to assist with weekend news planning, as local communities are holding special events this Saturday to mark the start of new SunRail commuter rail service to southern Orange and Osceola counties.

Where: At each of the new SunRail stations; Meadow Woods, Tupperware, Kissimmee and Poinciana. The main celebration begins 9 a.m. at the Tupperware Station located at 3205 Orange Ave., Kissimmee. Celebrations at the three other stations are occurring around 8 a.m. (give or take).

When: Saturday, July 28 — (prior to new SunRail service beginning Monday, July 30).

Each community is holding its own celebration at its individual station to mark the opening of four stations and 17 additional miles in SunRail’s southern expansion. To support these community-based celebrations, SunRail is running a special train Saturday morning prior to opening day.

This SunRail train is picking up specially ticketed customers (by invitation) at each station and transporting guests to the Tupperware Station for the main event sponsored by Osceola County. The train is then making a return trip to all stations.

Media members covering the Tupperware event, who wish to ride the train from station to station, need to obtain a ticket and need to coordinate with Steve Olson, FDOT district five communications manager. There is a limited number of tickets available. Please call 386-479-1252 or email D5-PIO@dot.state.fl.us or steve.olson@dot.state.fl.us for further information. If you also plan to cover events at stations in addition to Tupperware, please note those events get underway earlier. You may also board the train from those locations earlier, but will need to coordinate with FDOT communications to get a ticket. Tickets are available the day of the event.

Please be careful around trains, railroad crossings, and while at station platforms. Be smart. Be safe. For more information about SunRail, including fares, schedule and station locations, please visit www.sunrail.com.
