In recognition of National Immunization Month, the Volusia County Health Department is encouraging parents of school aged children to get their youngsters vaccinated with the needed shots before school starts.

A limited number of free bike helmets will be provided and fitted by the Volusia Transportation Planning Organization. The health department encourages children to be more physically active by participating in activities such as bike riding.

A representative from Florida KidCare will also be available to speak with parents. Through Florida KidCare, the state of Florida offers health insurance for children from birth through age 18 years, even if one or both parents work.

Also, the health department offers free children’s vaccinations Monday thru Friday at clinic locations in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, DeLand and Deltona. The above mentioned free bike helmet event will only take place at the Daytona Beach clinic while supplies last.

This event is held in partnership with the Volusia Transportation Planning Organization and Florida KidCare.
